It all starts here, at the end.
A course is always the beginning of a journey.
It’s through practicing the material in the course that you achieve mastery.
This is particularly true of the financial markets, which will always remain an unconquered challenge.
So, in many ways, your journey as a rules-based trader is just beginning.
Now I’d like to share some ‘hard truths’ and words of encouragement, based on my 16 years of trading experience.
A brief note of appreciation
First, I’d like to say thank you. I’m truly honoured that you have chosen to spend your time doing this course.
So… thanks mate.
You live in the Himalayas
Traders live in the mountains.
During your trading journey, you’ll see and experience extreme highs and lows (just like any good price chart.)
There will be times when you are ready to give up trading.
Nothing will work, and it will seem like ‘the markets’ are conspiring against you.
At other times you’ll feel like you have ‘made it,’ and every trade is a winner.
The secret to it all is – even though you are in the mountains – act like you are on the plains.
Keep your emotions level, win or lose
You can celebrate the wins, of course, and you can’t help but feel bad about losses.
But reset yourself to a slightly positive, calm state, and let go of what happened in the past (be that good or bad.)
Keep following your process and just place disciplined trade after trade.
Then, as you grow, you’ll start to experience more highs and less lows, and either way you’ll see it as part of an enjoyable journey.
It’ll be one that won’t just change the way you trade, but will change you.
You trade for you
Don’t fall into the trap of trading because of what you want others to think of your trading.
I learnt the error of doing this when running a signal service for two years.
Despite strong and consistent returns, by the end of two years, results started to level off.
This was because I was trading to protect the performance we had achieved (so it looked good), rather than following the process and taking each trade on its merit.
I was not trading for me.
This, of course, had the opposite effect to what I wanted. I was not following the probabilities, but trying to make trades work by not following my rules.
So don’t trade because you want to look a certain way to your friends, family or on social media.
The same goes when looking at other traders’ results. Seeing a trader on social media standing beside a nice new car does not mean you need to feel inadequate.
You are running your own race
It’s a marathon, not a sprint. What others have done (or appear to have done) is irrelevant to you and your own personal journey.
It takes time (but you have it.)
The hard fact is you will not be profitable each week, month or year.
Even the greatest traders will have losing years, so don’t be so hard on yourself.
Success comes from longevity, measuring your performance over time, and gradually improving.
It’s about following the right processes and focusing on the right thing over a long period of time, not just what’s happened this week or last week.
The reality is that many of you will give up along the way. That’s fine too. Not everyone is meant to be a trader.
But if this is something you are passionate about, then keep at it.
It took me a long time to learn to trade, and it was not until I met Dr Van Tharp in person, and learnt about rules-based trading, that things really started to work for me consistently.
I was lucky that I didn’t give up.
Keep managing your risk/reward, keep learning and growing, and I honestly believe you’ll get there.
The Good Fight
Inspirational author Paulho Coelho, author of 30 international bestsellers, said:
“The Good Fight is the one we fight because our heart asks it of us.
The Good Fight is the one that’s fought in the name of our dreams.”
The good fight, for me, is trading, and if you are here reading this, then I expect it is for you too.
This is a lifelong skill
Rules-based trading is a skill set that you will have for life.
I’ve used a rules-based approach to trade high-conviction trades in Bitcoin, stocks and ETFs.
I think about risk/reward and probabilities when investing in real estate or even starting a new business.
Learning these important life skills (even if you don’t end up as a forex trader) will hold you in good stead for life.
You’ll make better decisions about any trade or investment you make, and this skill set will keep your money safe.
Now it’s your turn
Now it’s your turn to make it happen.
This course provides you with a complete roadmap to becoming a rules-based trader.
Each part is designed to work on a different aspect of your trading to make you consistent and profitable.
Ultimately, you will learn to treat trading like a scientist, where you test, trade, review and repeat in order to hit the goals you have set for yourself.
Let’s review the steps:
- Write your rules
- Back-test them to check they work
- Live trade to ‘test your hypothesis’
- Record your trades and review your performance
- Make changes (to do more of what works, and less of what doesn’t)
- Repeat steps 2-6
Keep your mind clear, don’t over-complicate things, and follow the process with discipline.
I believe you’ll get there.
Catch you again soon.
Cheers,
